Again dreams played an instrumental facet inspiring Julia to comment on culture through the subject of Shoes. Some paintings such as LOL, Cheeky or Wet Shoe Dream were created directly from the dream vision. Julia shares how she creates the dream compositions; she begins a piece by photographing a subject to supplement details of what she has visualized in dreams or meditation. “The painting Wet Shoe Dream is a good example: "I dreamt of red shoes and a glass shoe with a koi swimming in it. I spent days photographing koi in public ponds, red shoes and water filled glass vases. Then I took elements from many of the photos to create the composition which best represented the dream and also had a pleasing composition." Other paintings simply express joy and play such as in the Anniversary Series, which mischievously depicts a couple’s shoes and empty wine glasses.
