Diptych (2 canvases) The Venus flytrap Dionaea muscipula is an active steel trap. It has miniscule trigger hairs when touched, more than once, close around its prey. Its prey consists of flying insects of all kinds, beetles, spiders and centipedes. It is native to North and South Carolina, often surrounded by other carnivorous plants growing in damp soils.
