The carnivorous Yellow Trumpet Sarracenia flava is a passive pitfall trap. Its prey consists of winged insects of many types and sizes such as flies, wasps, bees and dragonflies. The green with purple wing trumpet depicted in this painting is S. flava var. ornata. The Damselfly (and the trumpets) I had the joy of photographing while visiting the Savanna River Ecology Lab, South Carolina, then used the images in my studio to create the Painting.
